The Cash Game Festival London 2018 at Aspers Casino Stratford was a success. We had quite a lot of international players flying in, adding color to the local live poker scene. Moreover, we had a decent number of poker games going on 24/7. This time, our record was 24 simultaneously running cash game tables. Looks like many felt it was a good time for some on the felt action during the first week of 2018. AND is everybody ready for the next stop in Bratislava on April 4th-8th?
What games did we play in London? Our live poker event featured a wide variety of games including hold’em, dealer’s choice pot-limit Omaha, Sviten Special and super dealer’s choice at low and high stakes. You can expect such variety and the varied stakes at all the other stops of 2018.
In London, like at every stop of ours, we also played live poker that is streamed online on our Twitch channel during the 5-day festival. Usually, we have 10 TV table sessions per event. However, this time in London, we hosted 11 feature tables (stakes from £1/£2 to £10/£25) as for Saturday, we made a bold decision to add an additional daytime TV table starting at 2.30 PM. The demand for live games was high enough, so it was an easy decision to make. On Saturday, we also had ladies only TV table with quite a few poker girls getting their first Cash Game Festival experience. A 32Red Poker qualifier Edgars from Latvia wanted to join the ladies’ table but he was not able to find a wig on time and all seats were taken, so we decided to postpone the TV table comedy edition to some other time.
From the bottom of our hearts, we would like to thank the awesome guys who contributed to our Twitch stream commentary. Our biggest thanks go to UK’s Ryan Davey who put in the most hours during the whole week. Mind that he took up this task in addition to his daily job in an engineering company in London. We would also like to thank Pokernews‘ Jason Glatzer and William Powell who hosted 1 full stream together with Jason offering some additional support to Ryan during the whole festival. Our special thanks go to 2 young UK players Henry Kilbane and George Sandford who took over the earliest stream on Saturday. It was their first time ever to do such a thing but they did an amazing job as if they had been professionals. The guys were so excited over the opportunity to be in the commentary booth that they are eagerly waiting for another invite. Guys, you will be back!
Who won the TV table trophy? By now, we have given out 4 such awards. On day 1, UK’s Sam Miller won £5775 or 1155 big blinds on the £2/£5 Omaha TV table. Throughout the whole festival, it seemed that he would be the next winner as nobody could beat the amount of big blinds won. However, the last 30 minutes of the final feature table of London stop changed everything as China’s Mr Wang became the dark horse in the competition. He set another record by winning £9064 in profit or 1812,8 big blinds on the £5/£5 Omaha table. Congratulations! The same feature table also hosted the previous trophy winners NordicBet‘s Jon Kyte from Norway and Ireland’s Kevin Malone. Despite not winning, there’s nothing wrong with their game, strong cash game poker players as they are. For Jon, it was his second London stop; for Kevin, it was his first as he only learned about the Cash Game Festival in Dublin when we were there in October 2017. In November, they both attended Tallinn stop with an attempt to for another trophy. Despite playing strong, Estonia’s Heiti Riisberg shipped it instead, and then got it crashed.
In addition to playing loads of live poker, we also had some fun off the felt! Namely, at every stop, we offer fun side activities to qualifiers and to players who purchase the Cash Game Festival’s hospitality package. During these outings, players get a chance to socialize and relax. New friendships are being formed while others can catch up with the friends they have made at previous festivals. In London, we enjoyed welcome drinks, exercised at a trampoline park, had a super tasty Brazilian-style VIP dinner on Friday, a beer-pong party with not only beer and a guided tour of Camden Town, a district of north west London, on the sunny Sunday afternoon. What a pleasure it has been. We will be back in London in September, so if we are lucky, we will get to do some awesome stuff if some plans of ours hold. Stay tuned!
